Imagine stepping into the private residence of Alexander Chen, a celebrated art investor and philanthropist in Manhattan. His 6,268 SF luxury residence on 111 West 57th Street redefines what it means to merge living with art. Designed in an Art Gallery–Inspired High-End Contemporary style, the dining area becomes a stage for sculptural form, bold artistic gestures, and refined living.
Here, the piano, dining, and lounge spaces flow rhythmically like curated galleries at MoMA, yet with a personal intimacy only a private residence can offer. Through a choreography of bold artworks, sculptural zoning, and layered textures, this home achieves a narrative of structural elegance and artistic sophistication.

Through a choreography of bold artworks, sculptural zoning, and layered textures, this home achieves a narrative of structural elegance and artistic sophistication.

The design narrative unfolds around a gallery-like composition. Every line and surface has a sculptural flow—a movement that harmonizes the piano, dining, and lounge zones into a seamless rhythm.
The curation begins with purposeful spatial zoning. Rather than isolating dining as a standalone activity, the design connects it to music and conversation, creating an immersive social experience. Bold artworks anchor the space, while refined contrasts—stone against velvet, metal against oak—evoke both permanence and elegance.

Asymmetry is embraced as an artistic device. Vertical focal points stretch toward soaring ceilings, layered textures unfold across walls and furniture, and shifting perspectives transform each step into a discovery. This dining room is not simply a place to gather, but a structural canvas for life’s most refined moments.

“The asymmetry. It keeps the room alive. Every dinner feels like entering a curated exhibition, where the vertical focal point changes with the light.”

Designing a dining space that merges intimate gatherings with grand entertaining was the greatest challenge. The solution came in zoning by rhythm—each area flows with intent, from the piano for ambiance, to the dining table for meals, and the lounge for lingering conversations.

The dining project was executed with a budget of $45,200, ensuring every element balanced artistry with functionality.

For HNW individuals, the dining room is more than a backdrop—it’s a social sculpture. Hosting soirées with Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades, enjoying private evenings with Roche Bobois dining chairs, or showcasing limited-edition Versace Home lighting pieces, the space adapts to both intimate family dinners and lavish art-driven gatherings.
The rhythmic sequencing of spaces encourages conversation, performance, and curation—perfect for collectors, entrepreneurs, and cosmopolitans who view their homes as an extension of their cultural capital.
“A dining room is not merely about meals—it’s about creating a sequence of moments. Treat it as you would an art collection: each piece must resonate individually, yet together they must compose a symphony.” – Lead Designer
