Luxury 2,113 SF luxury modern house tour in NYC’s 8 S 4th St UNIT PH3A. Expansive views meet sculptural furniture and artistic modern design.
8 S 4th St UNIT PH3A residence is designed for a modern urban dweller who naturally translates refined taste into the language of everyday life. Rather than simply consuming aesthetics, he curates with intention—moving to his own rhythm—and views the home not merely as a private retreat, but as a stage for designing experiences. Grounded in this lifestyle, the space is realized as a form of restrained luxury that embraces the energy of the city while softening its intensity.
The living room becomes a scene that frames the city at its most captivating. Expansive glazing draws the Manhattan skyline into the interior, while softly curved furnishings placed in the foreground create a deliberate contrast to the linear architecture, intuitively guiding both movement and sightlines. Natural light interacts delicately with neutral tones and layered textures—offering a crisp, airy atmosphere by day and a deeper, softly diffused mood by night. Every element is precisely composed to enhance comfort without compromising visual clarity or design integrity.

This space was designed under the Urban Soft Modern concept, embracing the city view while gently surrounding the resident’s everyday life with warmth and comfort. The overall palette centers on beige and warm gray tones to minimize visual tension, while contrasts in materials and forms add depth and dimension to the interior.

The focal piece of furniture in this space is a curved modular sofa. Its organic silhouette contrasts with the linear window frames, introducing a natural flow throughout the room. The low seat height and generous depth maintain an open sightline, strengthening the connection to the surrounding cityscape. A neutral fabric with subtle texture was selected to allow the sofa’s appearance to shift delicately with changing light.

Favorite Element:
“This space is more than a living room defined by furniture placement; it is a lifestyle-centered environment where curved forms orchestrate sightlines, circulation, and the flow of light into a cohesive whole.”

Biggest Challenge & Solution:
Lighting plays a pivotal role in defining the atmosphere of the space. Glass materials capture and reflect natural light during the day, while softly diffusing artificial illumination at night. A combination of indirect lighting and table lamps was layered to allow for a range of moods, adaptable to different times of day and living scenarios.

Budget:
With a $300,000 allocation, the investment focused on collectible furniture and designer lighting, ensuring both long-term value and an immediate sense of sophistication befitting a luxury New York residence.

In front of the sofa, round coffee tables of varying heights and diameters were layered to create a flexible focal zone. The weighty stone-textured tabletop anchors the center of the space, while its form responds harmoniously to the curved sofa, reinforcing visual cohesion. Designed to be easily moved and reconfigured, the tables adapt fluidly to the resident’s lifestyle and daily routines.
For a lifestyle that frequently welcomes guests, this layered arrangement seamlessly expands into a party table setting. By spacing the tables apart, multiple serving zones are created—allowing snacks and drinks to be placed and plated separately—while maintaining a smooth circulation flow that supports conversation without disruption.
