118 W 13th St #PENTHOUSE, New York, NY 10011, USA
Luxury 3981 SF living room at 118 W 13th Street, NY. Dramatic skyline views, bold designer table, and iconic lighting create an artistic haven.
Facing New York’s refined urban landscape, this penthouse at 118 W 13th Street presents a residential space where modern sensibility and a thoughtfully curated lifestyle come together. The living room is grounded in a minimalist framework, yet achieves a harmonious balance of elegance and comfort through the use of curved furniture and refined detailing.
Sculptural sofas, rounded tables, and carefully selected lighting and storage pieces go beyond pure functionality, coming together like a curated collection that completes the space. Ultimately, this living room is realized as a private urban living lounge where contemporary aesthetics and a relaxed, refined lifestyle coexist.

Set against an urban landscape framed by expansive windows and a terrace, this space is realized as a modern living and dining lounge where natural light and the sculptural beauty of curves take center stage. Sheer, delicate curtains are layered along the generously sized windows to softly diffuse the incoming light, preventing it from becoming overwhelming while enveloping the entire interior in an even, gentle brightness. As a result, during the daytime, natural light itself—rather than artificial lighting—becomes the most essential element shaping the atmosphere of the space.

In front of the sofa, a high-gloss black round coffee table anchors the visual center of the space with confidence. Its dark, polished surface contrasts with the light-colored sofa, creating a bold focal point while subtly reflecting the scenery and light beyond the windows to enhance visual depth. The circular form of the table carries forward the curved language of the sofa, allowing movement and sightlines to flow naturally, and drawing people together around moments of conversation and tea time. A low, round side table layered above introduces variation in height, extending functionality while delicately enhancing usability around the sofa area.

Favorite Element:
“The dining zone is kept within the same visual field as the living area, while materials and colors are used to subtly define and separate the space.”

Biggest Challenge & Solution:
The greatest challenge was balancing playfulness with elegance. The design team overcame this by curating lighting and shelving with sculptural restraint, ensuring that bold pieces like the Soriana Chair and Cactus Lamp were offset by minimalist elements.

Budget:
With an investment of $250,000, every selection was treated as both furniture and collectible art. The result is a living room that doubles as a gallery of functional design icons.

The pendant light in the living area emphasizes minimalist sculptural form through a circular disc design, while the chandelier-style pendant above the dining area creates a more decorative rhythm through an assembly of glass elements in varied shapes. Although the lighting fixtures have distinct characters, they coexist within a single space by sharing common materials—glass—and a warm white tone, allowing for a seamless visual connection. As a result, natural light defines the atmosphere during the day, while lighting takes over at night, transforming the same space into a lounge with different moods depending on the time of day.
Ultimately, this space achieves a modern yet inviting living and dining lounge through an open sense of expansiveness that fully embraces natural light and terrace views, the gentle flow created by curved furniture, and a balanced interplay of dark accents and a colored rug. Within a framework of restrained forms, layers of refined materials and colors are thoughtfully built up, culminating in a high-end lifestyle that allows for a relaxed, unhurried daily life even in the heart of the city.
